About Angelique
Angelique Aiyana Fox was born in Littleton, Colorado. Her mother, herself a designer, encouraged Angelique’s early interests in both visual and performance art. Inspired by the art community living there, Angelique spent her adolescence between Santa Fe, New Mexico and throughout Colorado where she drew from both the geography and the culture.
Travel became a central theme and education for the development of Angelique’s pieces. And the years that followed she found herself living and traveling in Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Indonesia, and the West Indies. After settling in San Francisco, she explored painting, installation and performance art for several years. She again found inspiration in travel, when a trip to New Orleans motivated her to work on mixed media sculptures. Travels through Africa and the Middle East continued to inform and evolve her process.
Utilizing techniques that borrow from the traditional and decorative arts, her process often involves living, and working with native peoples in the lands she visits. Her materials are often collected and incorporated directly from her journeys and into her pieces. Her work reflects a new emerging global consciousness, transporting the viewer on his or her own surreal journey.
In 2004, Angelique moved to Los Angeles where she is actively creating and showing her work.
